What is a Fit To Fly Certificate?
A Fit To Fly Certificate is a document issued by a licensed medical professional confirming that you are medically fit to travel by air.
This certificate is often required by airlines, especially if you have specific medical conditions, are recovering from surgery, or are in later stages of pregnancy.
When is a Fit To Fly Certificate Required?
A Fit To Fly Certificate may be needed in the following situations:
-
Post-Surgery or Hospital Discharge: You have recently undergone surgery or been discharged from the hospital and need confirmation of your fitness to travel.
-
Pregnancy: You are more than 28 weeks pregnant. Most airlines require a medical certificate confirming your pregnancy status and fitness for travel.
-
Visible Health Conditions: You are traveling with medical aids such as a wheelchair, cast, or crutches.
-
Recent Illness or Injury: You have delayed your travel plans due to an illness or injury and require confirmation of recovery.
-
Previous Flight Health Issues: You experienced health complications during a past flight and need assurance of safety for future travel.

Pregnant Travelers
-
Single pregnancy: Travel is permitted until the 36th week for flights under 4 hours and the 34th week for longer flights. A medical certificate confirming the estimated delivery date and normal pregnancy status is required.
-
Multiple or complicated pregnancies: Medical approval from the airline and a Fit To Fly Certificate are mandatory.

Travel beyond the 36th week is not recommended.
